Good morning.
What makes a morning, or for that matter, a day good? Is it because we feel good or because we have lots of stuff? Is it because we have food to put in our bellies and shelter to protect our families? Or is it because we are loved? All these things, even feeling good or being loved are really beyond our control. What is most important is that we choose TO love.
When Jesus was asked the greatest commandment, He said, "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices." When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."
We choose to love no matter what the circumstances, no matter whether things are going well or ill, no matter whether we are loved or not loved.
But the fact remains that we ARE loved. For John said, "We love, because He first loved us." No one who reads the Bible can doubt that it is the greatest love letter ever written. And it was written to us by God, who never changes or wavers in His love & care for us.
